Regular readers of Mr Darcey's Newsletters
may well be wondering what has happened
over the past few months?
Well, The Hubby , was quite poorly before Christmas
and in hospital for several weeks,
so I was spending all day and every day
at the hospital in Oxford.

The website was neglected
but I got an awful lot of knitting done!!!!!
But we are determined that
2010 will be a better year
and on a more positive note,
The Hubby is making splendid progress-
slow but sure!!!
2010
After the excesses of Christmas spending,
one always expects January to be a quiet month
but not so for Mr Darcey's Cottage
with sales of knitting kits, being especially high!!
Not least I am sure, as a result of the snowy weather!!
-as you can see
Darcey and Maisie loved being out in the snow!
I am now working on getting some kits ready
using lighter weight yarns for when the weather
gets a bit warmer!
Mr Darcey's Knitting Circle
The knitting group is growing steadily and we have recently
moved from the village hall to the beautiful setting
of Heather's Farm and the Cool Contours studio -
huge windows, lots of light and views to die for!!
We meet on the
first and third Wednesday's of the month
from 10.00am -1.00pm and
we welcome knitter's (and crocheters)
of all abilities and ages!
Lots of tea, coffee, biscuits and cake
(Heather's home made muffins sometimes!!)
and plenty of chat and help!
Although we have a band of
regular stalwarts who join us
every week, come along
whenever you can make it
- we warmly welcome visitors to the area
who are in need of a little bit of knitty sustenance!
Freeform Knitting and Crochet
Cool Contours was
the venue for a
small but very
creative class of
Freeformers last
month!
The class was an introduction to the art of
Freeform and 'scumbles', and it wasn't long
before everyone was busy rummaging
through the huge selection of yarns,
making their selection for their first textured pieces.
By the time
lunchtime came
round, there was
a creditable pile
of knitting in front
of everyone!
As always Heather did us proud
with a super home cooked lunch
( and my favourite pud -rhubarb (from the garden ) crumble)
Then it was back to the studio to begin putting
some of the 'scumbles' together.
By the time Heather arrived at
the end of the day, with home made cake and tea,
everyone was well on the way, with their Freeform bags
We are hoping to run the class again later this year
so do get in touch via the contact form
if you would like to know more.
Or email me : mrdarceyscottage@btinternet.com
Other classes being planned right now are:
'Sock knitting for beginner's'
'Using a peg loom'
'Learn to knit'
'Knitting in the round'
'Knit a chunky necklace!'

Mystery Blanket Evening
I just managed to squeeze everyone in
for the beginning of the Mystery Blanket Sessions,
which I am running from home.
After several requests to run something in the evening
for people who work full time and cannot attend any
of the daytime events, I came up with the
Mystery Blanket idea.
On the first and Third Thursday of the month
everyone meets here and learns how to knit new stitches!
A 20cm square, in a very complicated cable or lace pattern,
is far less daunting than tackling a whole garment.
We are using beautifully soft UK alpaca for our squares
and I prepare a selection of 6 stitches for the group
to choose from , covering textured stitches, cables and lace.
By the end of several sessions we will all have
a brilliant selection of swatches which ,when stitched together,
will make a magificent heirloom sampler blanket!
As there has been so much interest in this project,
I will probably be running this class again -
do e mail if you are interested :(mrdarceyscottage@btinternet.com)
No shows or fairs this month but next month
we will be exhibiting at :
Tuesday 9th March -Ladies Pamper Evening,
Greens Norton, Northants
Saturday 20th March -Stamford High School
